President Barack Obama presented Bob Dylan with a Medal of Freedom yesterday. Check out our March issue, where we featured his long history in music and his relationship with Minnesota. Writer David Jarnstrom describes the younger Dylan this way: “a Medusa-like mass of hair atop a gaunt frame wrapped in smart blazers and skinny pants, sunken eyes ever obscured by Ray-Bans.” The sunglasses didn’t even come off as the president hung the medal around his neck. The more things change…

Surging vinyl-record sales (3.9 million units sold in 2011 according to the Nielsen Company, a whopping 36-percent increase from 2010) have not only helped sustain a bounty of record stores in the Twin Cities, they’ve also provided an opportunity for a pair of local 20-somethings to work their dream jobs: unearthing musical relics for a new generation of wax fetishists to enjoy.
