The Red Stag Supperclub has always been about something more than dinner.

Between its stellar roster of local music and Sunday afternoon trivia, the Northeast Minneapolis restaurant has had a tradition of asking their guests to stay after their plates have been cleared.

Now guests have another reason to stick around: a new film night series, which kicks off at 10 p.m. Wedensday night with a screening of the MPLS Trilogy, three short films by local filmmakers Jaime Carrera and Tyler Jensen.

It’s been a long process, but every minute of hard work has been worth it. I love what this place has to offer and I cannot wait to share it with everyone.

For sheer size, it’s hard to match Art-a-Whirl’s 500+ artists and dozens of special events. Your weekend of art appreciation can easily turn into a slog if you’re not ready, so get out your planners and witness how the busiest weekend in Northeast is done:

It all starts on Friday.

The first place to hit is the Northrup King Building. If Art-a-Whirl was a solar system, then NKB would be the sun. Filled with hundreds of stalls representing local artists and studios, you could keep coming back all weekend and still not see it all. Tonight, check out Angel Bomb Design + Letterpress to see their custom prints and demos, as well as the ArtCrank booth to see their bike-themed prints.

At 8 p.m., head over to Creative Electric Studio to see their riverfront exhibiton, “The Slow Mirror and the Metronome.” The show features floating installations, aquatic projections, live bands and sound collages all adrift on the water.

If your brain is still intact after all the floating speakers and flashing lights, head over to Casket Art’s Carriage House to catch the opening reception of “Flocked,” a project that pieces together a litany of small pieces into a giant patchwork wallpaper. Afterwards, you can complete your day of sensory overload with a homemade pretzel from the Bulldog, because no one can say no to a pretzel.
