“I want those kids that go to Soundset to appreciate what it is that they’re seeing – that hip-hop is this tree that has grown all these different branches, but that they are all united.”

The lineup for the 2012 Soundset Festival has been announced, and we think you’re going to like what the fine folks at Rhymesayers have put together.
Now in its fifth year, the festival will feature a host of hip-hop’s best talents, including Atmosphere, Lupe Fiasco, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon, Aesop Rock, I Self Devine, Prof, Astronautalis, and P.O.S. Brother Ali, MaLLY, and J Pratt will serve as the hosts of the show.
The acts will be spread across three stages on May 27 at Shakoppe’s Canterbury Park. General admission tickets are $41 and go on sale March 10 at 11 a.m. VIP tickets are $90.
Also planned: a DJ tent, a live painting exhibit, skateboarding demonstration area, custom car show, and a special “Last of the Record Buyers live production.”

Knowing you’re always just three hours from home makes it very much like a winter vacation in a way. I have a feeling that this year is going to achieve a very similar feeling, and you don’t ever get that feeling when you’re away. Being close to home is definitely more important to me now. I’ve always had a want to be close to my family. And I’m kind of a control freak so I want to be close to anything and everything that I have in my life. Plus it just makes it easier to relax and make something feel amazing. It’s not like it’s the kind of tour that makes any money, but you don’t even have to think about it. And that’s a great feeling. When you got that going for you, it makes the show more focused, and you can just let it out.
- Sean Daley, on what it’s like to go on the Welcome to Minnesota tour. Read the full interview, and find out how you can win tickets to the Rochester show, here.

“There is a dark side to everything, just like there’s a light side to everything. I watch a lot of Star Wars, and that’s what Star Wars taught me. I’m serious. There’s life lessons to be learned in Star Wars. That shit is real as fuck.”
- Grieves, speaking with METRO contributor Will Wlizlo
