“Comprised of diaries, sleepover parties, purses, menopause and puberty jokes, pantyliner – as well as pink, pink and more pink – Girls Only is a middle-aged suburban woman’s cabaret dream. The only problem is that it’s hard for almost every other demographic to relate to.”
- Becki Iverson, writing about Girls Only, at the New Century Theatre through March 18

I think clothes are all about movement. A piece of cloth with a seam in it moves differently than a piece of cloth without a seam in it. So, if we were working with a period where the looms were only 18 inches wide well, today you can make 60-inch fabric and why would you cut it up into 18-inchpieces and sew it back up again? People would think that was ridiculous but no, it makes all the difference.
Costume designer Jack Edwards, speaking with Kelsey Johnston in anticipation of the Goldstein Museum of Design’s retrospective of his work.

This old story feels curiously pertinent, a premonition to the protests that swept the Middle East this spring and our unflinching political climate that bears a striking resemblance to the suicidal Javiert. We can all use a refresher from the lessons of Les Mis: that forgiveness and compassion are always better than steadfast vengeance; that even the lowest echelon of society has value and needs; and that sometimes it is worth risking everything to fight for something you believe in.
Becki Iverson in her review of Les Miserables, at the Orpheum Theatre through Dec. 18.

The Twin Cities theatre community is certainly in the holiday spirit. But with the abundance of options also comes some difficult decisions. With so many shows to choose from, figuring out which show to see can be overwhelming.
To help you sort it out, we’ve narrowed it down to a few of our favorite holiday shows. Take the extra time and bake some cookies (hint, hint our address can be found on the contact page).
See our complete rundown here.
